Hybrid IT – The modern approach to deploying your solutions on varied environments

Technology is changing fast, and along with it, the business landscape. A software product most suitable for today will only serve the company for a while. A product is deemed to be a legacy one when it becomes incompatible or costly. In our previous blog, we discussed the first step in modernizing the application, i.e., calculating its technical debt. In this second blog in the series on Legacy Modernization, we’ll look at why Hybrid IT is a good option while modernizing your legacy systems and how you should begin.

Hybrid IT – reducing the risk of Legacy Modernization

Hybrid IT is an approach to enterprise computing in which an organization provides and manages some information technology (IT) resources in-house but uses cloud-based services for others.

This management approach allows firms to deploy their applications or products across multiple deployment environments, including on-premises (legacy systems), public, or private clouds.

Once a company decides to modernize an application, it has to choose from the several options and paths available. It should carefully study various products, cloud options, suitable methodologies, and resilient architectures to check their suitability. The assessment is indeed the most crucial step and usually quite tricky. However, there’s another option, "Hybrid IT".

Please note that hybrid IT is often used interchangeably with Hybrid cloud. However, they are slightly different. While hybrid IT is a form of hybrid cloud, not all hybrid clouds are considered hybrid IT. Hybrid IT involves both on-premises and cloud services whereas Hybrid Cloud involves using a cloud provider that may use other public or private clouds.

Thus, Hybrid IT provides a greater leeway for companies to try new things, plan, and implement their growth strategy.

Advantages of Hybrid IT

  • Offers a wide choice of public clouds, private clouds, and on-premise systems.
  • Resolves the concern of vendor lock-in
  • Supports gradual modernization of legacy systems
  • Aids in responding to changing business needs
  • Gives greater control of data and other digital assets
  • In line with the latest and widely accepted industry practices of DevOps
  • Provides an option to leverage low-code platforms to build or extend applications

Don’t choose Hybrid IT to postpone Legacy Modernization.

Hybrid IT allows companies to plan and comfortably space out transformational changes by breaking them into bite-sized parts. Though it doesn’t force a company to take the risk and modernize in a hurry, choosing Hybrid IT doesn’t make legacy systems modern or manageable. Anyway, modernization is essential.
